Philippines Hosts the Islamic Fashion Festival for the First Time

The Islamic Fashion Festival (IFF), a Southest Asian fashion event established in Malaysia in 2006, was hosted by the Philippines this year for the first time.

The festival, held in Manila’s Hotel InterContinental, featured the collections of eight designers, three of them from the Philippines, namely JC Buendia, Veejay Floresca and Jun Escario. The others were Tom Abang Saufi, Syaiful Baharim and Melinda Looi of Malaysia, Milo Migliavacca of Indonesia, and menswear brand Ya Jameel Homme.

The wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia — who is an IFF patron — was in attendance with other Malaysian VIPs and royalty.

The Official Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2012 Casting Team has started its search for the Next Face of Asia 2012!
The NEXT FACE of ASIA 2012 is a contest in search for new-up-and-coming models in Asia held from now to 27 Apr 2012 (the “Contest Period”).

It is a modelling contest for aspiring models who wish to propel their modelling career to the next level.
It is organised and managed by Orchard Road Business Association and modernAge Design and Communications (the “Organisers”) in conjunction with Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2012 (“FSO 2012”).

If you think your models have what it takes to become our Next Face of Asia, submit your applications to us with the following.

1. Completed Contestant Application (including a signed Release and Waiver)

2. Three-minute video clip labelled clearly with applicant’s name. The videotape must meet the following requirements:

· Length: three (3) minutes maximum. Anything over three (3) minutes will not be considered.

· Format: DVD or mp4 only.

· Content: Tell us who you are and why you would make the ultimate Next Face of Asia 2012.

· Part of the video should include the applicant’s best runway walk.

3. Three colour photographs of the applicant, each to be taken within the previous 30 days and clearly labelled with his/her name.

· one (1) full body (wearing swimsuit) colour photograph w/o D.I or Photoshop

· one (1) close up colour photograph of model face w/o D.I or Photoshop

· one (1) colour photograph of any test shoots/editorial spread

The fashion world is a thriving industry, which constantly seeks the expertise of model bookers when it comes to finding the right faces and body types to help successfully catapult a fashion company into the media spotlight. Ultimately, this profession requires solid connections with the industry and exceptional communication skills.

Nature of Work

An experienced model booker is trained to demonstrate reliability when it comes to spotting people with successful modeling potential. In addition, this job requires maintaining and building a base of clients who are in constant need of models to showcase their products. Essentially, model bookers must manage the professional career of models, assuring that they find castings that match their specific looks, while also meeting the requests of various clients. For instance, if a company is looking for a model of a certain height, hair color or skin complexion, it is the job of a model booker to find the best model in order to meet client expectations.

Education and Skills

According to StateUniversity.com, there are no specific educational requirements needed to succed in this type of career. However, it is recommended that you obtain a bachelor’s degree in a field related to marketing, public relations or communications. Also, having a broad knowledge of fashion trends and photography, as well as connections with the fashion and media industry, is key in order to succeed.
