Hear New ‘Skirt’ from Kylie

KYLIE Minogue has given fans a present on her 45th birthday – a racy new song.

Skirt is the first taste of Minogue’s work since signing with Jay Z’s management company Roc Nation.

The song sees Minogue sing the line “and then my skirt came down” over dubstep and electro beats, complete with sighs and moans.

It is unclear whether the version online is a remix or the final version of a new single.

The song was made with Scottish dance producer Nom De Strip, aka Chris Elliott, and is co-written with Beyonce and Rihanna hit maker The Dream.

Elliott posted the song on Twitter after it was aired in Ibiza.

The chorus runs “Tonight, be my supernova, take whatever you want, Tonight, let me bask in you like rays of the sun/tonight I’m yours.”

Minogue has been in the studio with fellow Australian Sia, as well as Rodney Jerkins, Pharrell Williams and Lady Gaga producers Red One and Fernando Garibay for what will be her twelfth album. It is due for release later this year.

Thanks to the worldwide success of her MDNA Tour, Madonna was honored as the Top Touring Artist at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, held on Sunday night (May 19) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The legendary diva took the stage with a touch of sass, following an introduction by Will.i.am that was set to the tune of “Like a Virgin.” Referring to a preceding montage of MDNA footage, she proclaimed, “It took longer to negotiate whether I could show my ass in that trailer than it took to negotiate that tour!”

With that out of the way, Madge delved into a laundry list of thank you’s, including choreographers Rich and Tone Talauega, costume designer Arianne Phillips, musical director Kevin Antunes, set designer Mark Fisher, Live Nation’s Arthur Fogel, and of course, her fans. She also thanked her four children, two of which accompanied her on the blockbuster tour.

“They say that it takes a village to raise a child,” Madonna said, with her notecards humbly visible. “It took several international villages to put my show together.”

The 88-show MDNA tour grossed $305 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. It’s the pop icon’s latest chart landmark in a career full of them, including records for Hot 100 top 10 singles (38 of her overall 56 Hot 100 hits) and Dance Club Songs No. 1s (43).

‘American Idol’ 2013 winner: Candice Glover defeats Kree Harrison

Third time’s a charm.

Candice Glover, 23, took home the Season 12 title on “American Idol” tonight, out-dueling budding country star Kree Harrison for a victory well-deserved. The sweet South Carolina girl with the powerhouse chops becomes the first female “Idol” winner since Jordin Sparks won Season 6 in 2007.

Candice, an “Idol” veteran auditioning for a third time, was a huge judges’ favorite from wire to wire this season. Her Hollywood and Las Vegas performances were great and all, but once the Top 10 came around, the girl with the monster voice really let it all out.

Candice had a slew of show-stopping, awe-inspiring, stand-up-and-cheer moments this season, but a few that shine brighter than the rest include incredible versions of Ben E. King’s “I (who have Nothing),” West Side Story’s “Somewhere” and the now-“Idol” classic “Love Song” by the Cure.

And her showings in Wednesday night’s finale at the Nokia Theater sealed the deal. Her brand new single, “I am Beautiful,” was a powerful pop ballad and her revamped “I (who have Nothing)” was as show-stopping and strong as Candice has ever been.

As the confetti begins to settle and Candice finally stops crying, one thing becomes clear — this was the right choice. This was always the right choice.

Candice was undoubtedly the strongest vocalist of the season, combining a unique tone with a seasoned rasp to pump out world-class performances one after another. There was also a fantastic old-fashioned catch in Candice’s voice that allowed her to dominate the classic songs during the older theme weeks. And her falsetto was top-notch.

In other words, Candice was pretty much the whole “Idol” package.

About a month ago, Candice seemed to plateau just a little, but from audition to finale, the Beaufort native had this in the bag. Yes, there was the shocker last week when fellow frontrunner Angie Miller went home, but if it was meant to be, Angie would have been on that stage with her family and friends instead.

For Kree, who turns 23 in two hours, second place should still be a very welcome birthday present. She’s a great singer, has a beautiful effortlessness about her and will do well in the country music world.

As for Candice, she will have to carve out a more unique niche for herself to be truly successful in the real world. She has a terrific voice, but her image may not be strong enough to stand out. Let’s hope her voice does the talking, as it did for the last 5 months.

A little over 100 years ago, Broadway theater was just getting started in New York City. In its early days you could catch a musical such as “Black Crook” for $2 a seat. Although it was criticized heavily back then, the Broadway style of theater kept gaining popularity amongst the middle class. Nowadays it is not surprising to find a Broadway dancing and theater school in most big cities around the world. Musical theater enthusiasts attend a range of classes at these school to learn about what makes Broadway theater so special or in the hopes of becoming the next Broadway star.

Definition and Origins

  • Broadway dance can be defined as the incorporation of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles with theater and singing. At its beginnings, people were intrigued with Broadway theater because it was the first time dance was an integral component of a play’s plot. Because theater critics did not approve of Broadway as a serious type of theater in its first few decades, its creators were known as “gypsies” until successful productions proved otherwise. Some of the earliest recognized Broadway dance choreographers include George Balanchine, Robert Alton and Gower Champion.

Elements

  • Broadway dance is different from other styles because the fusion of ballet, jazz and modern allows for unconventional movements and unusual use of body parts. The use of theater props such as canes, top hats and gloves is also very popular in Broadway productions, allowing once again a variety of movements previously unexplored in theater or dance productions. Finally, what makes Broadway dance contrast with other dance styles is that is also blends in acting and singing, meaning that Broadway dancers also need to be actors and singers.
