Television host, radio deejay, music eclecticist, emcee and DJ, Patricia exudes warmth and confidence in everything that she sets her sights on, making her one of the most sought after personalities in the Malaysian entertainment industry.

Born in Hong Kong to a Danish father and a Chinese-Malaysian mother, Patricia’s mixed heritage has equipped her with a worldly and unique perspective on life. After spending her early years living in Japan, and in Hong Kong till she was about 10 years old before Patricia moved to Denmark with her father where she spent her formative years studying in Denmark while her summers were spent with her mother in Malaysia.

 

Music has always been a huge part of Patricia’s life. Originally inspired by the diverse sounds of artists such as James Vincent McMorrow, Metronomy, Florence and the Machine, Alt-J, James Blake, Phoenix, Mew and many more, her worldly travels soon introduced her to the sultry world of house music.

Yayasan Warisan Johor: Tarian Zapin

There are a number of zapin dance types performed in this segment , among others are Zapin Tenglu, Zapin Kores, Zapin Tanjung Labuh, Zapin Sri Bunian and Zapin Putar Alam, some of many many types of zapin dances in Malaysia. These type of zapin dance is popular in the state of Johor, each one is differentiate by its names, moves and province/district of origin .

The dancers in this performance are those professional zapin dancers from Johor’s Heritage Foundation (Yayasan Warisan Johor), needless to say one of the best professional folk dancers group in the country and Asean region!

Zapin or zafin was introduced to Malay archipelagos hundred of years ago by Arab traders who came here to trade and at the same time expand the teachings of Islam. After sometimes, the dance revolved to inculcate the values and tradition of the local Malay people until it wholly become unique in its own way but still maintaining some important features of zapin dance like the musical instruments used; gambus / oud, traditional drums etc., the Middle East melody in its song and the identical 8-counting-basic-movements in its dance!

Apart from the Malaysia’s state where the zapin is danced by its people like Johor, Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Sarawak and Sabah, zapin is also danced by the people in the neighboring country like Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei.

Siti Nurhaliza is a Malaysian singer, songwriter, record producer, and television presenter. Since her debut, she has won a number of international singing competitions. To date, she has garnered more than 200 local awards as well as international awards.

n 1998, she was chosen amongst few Malaysian artists to perform during the closing ceremony of 1998 Commonwealth Games in front of Queen Elizabeth II and her consort, Prince Philip among other dignitaries and officials from 70 countries including those from the Commonwealth of Nations. In 2005, she became the first Southeast Asian singer, and third Asian singer to perform a solo concert at the Royal Albert Hall while being backed by the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2005 also, she was listed second by MTV Asia in Asia’s Best Musical Artiste and Channel V’s Biggest Asian Artiste. In 2008, she was named as one of Asia’s Idol by Asia News Network. Her success in the Asian region has gained her honorific titles including “Voice of Asia” and “Asia’s Celine Dion”.
