‘American Idol’ 2013 winner: Candice Glover defeats Kree Harrison

Third time’s a charm.

Candice Glover, 23, took home the Season 12 title on “American Idol” tonight, out-dueling budding country star Kree Harrison for a victory well-deserved. The sweet South Carolina girl with the powerhouse chops becomes the first female “Idol” winner since Jordin Sparks won Season 6 in 2007.

Candice, an “Idol” veteran auditioning for a third time, was a huge judges’ favorite from wire to wire this season. Her Hollywood and Las Vegas performances were great and all, but once the Top 10 came around, the girl with the monster voice really let it all out.

Candice had a slew of show-stopping, awe-inspiring, stand-up-and-cheer moments this season, but a few that shine brighter than the rest include incredible versions of Ben E. King’s “I (who have Nothing),” West Side Story’s “Somewhere” and the now-“Idol” classic “Love Song” by the Cure.

And her showings in Wednesday night’s finale at the Nokia Theater sealed the deal. Her brand new single, “I am Beautiful,” was a powerful pop ballad and her revamped “I (who have Nothing)” was as show-stopping and strong as Candice has ever been.

As the confetti begins to settle and Candice finally stops crying, one thing becomes clear — this was the right choice. This was always the right choice.

Candice was undoubtedly the strongest vocalist of the season, combining a unique tone with a seasoned rasp to pump out world-class performances one after another. There was also a fantastic old-fashioned catch in Candice’s voice that allowed her to dominate the classic songs during the older theme weeks. And her falsetto was top-notch.

In other words, Candice was pretty much the whole “Idol” package.

About a month ago, Candice seemed to plateau just a little, but from audition to finale, the Beaufort native had this in the bag. Yes, there was the shocker last week when fellow frontrunner Angie Miller went home, but if it was meant to be, Angie would have been on that stage with her family and friends instead.

For Kree, who turns 23 in two hours, second place should still be a very welcome birthday present. She’s a great singer, has a beautiful effortlessness about her and will do well in the country music world.

As for Candice, she will have to carve out a more unique niche for herself to be truly successful in the real world. She has a terrific voice, but her image may not be strong enough to stand out. Let’s hope her voice does the talking, as it did for the last 5 months.

How TV Production Works (Did You Know)

Now it’s time to shoot the pilot episode. A pilot is the first episode of a show — they’re shot, fittingly, during pilot season, between January and May. If the network likes the pilot, it will pick up the show for the season and make it a series.

When the network approves a pilot for filming, several things must occur. First, the showrunner and producers are hired. The showrunner is the person in charge. He or she works with the writers and script, casts the actors, is responsible for creative direction and usually oversees the project from start to finish. Sometimes the showrunner is the person who created the show’s concept, wrote the script or treatment and pitched it. Producers help the showrunner handle everything. They help with hiring the director, talent, crew, writers and assistant producers, and their first task is rewriting or updating the script. When that’s done, cast auditions are next. Then the producers hire the crew — and finally, the pilot is shot and edited. This schedule is generally outlined as preproduction, production and postproduction.

When it’s time for casting, there might already be a lead actor (or actors) attached to the project. If not, the people in charge could try to assemble the cast themselves — or they could work with a talent agency or casting director. A casting director is usually well connected with agencies and managers and will put together a casting call, or daylong series of auditions. The producer and director get together with the casting director and audition actors for all of the scripted roles. These taped auditions usually last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes each. If it is an ensemble cast, they generally try to audition in groups to see if the actors have chemistry. Callbacks are repeat auditions — it might take multiple callbacks before all of the talent is hired. The casting director can hire extras or other nonspeaking roles, usually working through a talent agency.

At any given time, more than 80 people can be working together to make a TV show. The production team and the crew are as important as the talent (again, think of the writers’ strike) and really make the show happen. Here’s a short list of some of the production crew.

  • The director of photography (DP) is in charge of the shoot. He or she sets up the camera angles and shots and supervises the camera operators.
  • The production designer creates the physical vision of the show and designs the environments where the action takes place. Think of the bar in “Cheers,” the coffee shop in “Friends” and Al’s Diner in “Happy Days.”
  • The gaffer is the primary lighting technician.
  • The Foley mixer records and mixes the sound effects.
  • The editor puts it all together; assembling the video, audio and graphics for the show into a finished product.

Now that the cast and crew are set, it’s time to start shooting.

SEJARAH ORKESTRA RTM | ORKESTRA RADIO MALAYSIA TAHUN 1966

Selama lima dekad wujud di Malaysia, Orkestra RTM merupakan orkestra tertua negara. Kewujudannya sangat penting kerana ia antara pemangkin perkembangan industri muzik tempatan yang telah melahirkan ramai komposer berbakat dengan lagu-lagu malar segar sehingga ke hari ini.

Orkestra RTM juga boleh dianggap sebagai khazanah negara kerana ia boleh dijadikan rujukan dalam bidang muzik tempatan dalam usahanya memartabatkan lagi industri muzik tempatan.

Perjalanan yang bermula pada tahun 1961 dengan nama asalnya Orkes Radio Malaysia yang ketika itu dipimpin oleh Tan Sri Ahmad Merican telah memperlihatkan perbezaan dan kualiti daripada kumpulan muzik yang wujud pada ketika itu.Rumah Persekutuan yang masih tersergam di Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur sehingga ke hari ini menjadi monumen bersejarah apabila lokasi itu merupakan tempat kelahiran dan membesar Orkestra RTM.

Apabila operasi Radio dan Televisyen Malaysia disatukan pada tahun 1969, nama Orkestra Radio Malaysia ditukar kepada Orkestra RTM dan ia bertapak di Kompleks Angkasapuri sehingga sekarang.Selepas 50 tahun banyak nama besar dan tokoh dalam bidang muzik dilahirkan oleh Orkestra RTM yang juga menyumbang kepada industri muzik tanah air seperti Jimmy Boyle, Osman Ahmad, Datuk Ahmad Nawab, Kasim Masdor dan R. Ismail.

Selepas Tan Sri Ahmad Merican, tanggungjawab mengepalai orkestra tersebut diteruskan oleh Alfonso Soliano (Pemimpin Orkes Radio Malaysia 1961 – 1965), Gus Steyn (Pemangku Pemimpin 1967 – 1969), Datuk Johari Salleh (Pengarah Muzik 1965 – 1983), Datuk Ahmad Dasillah (Pengarah Muzik 1984 – 1999), Ruslan Mohd. Imam (Pemimpin Orkestra RTM 1978 – 1995) dan Datuk Mokhzani Ismail (Pengarah Muzik Orkestra RTM 1999 – kini).

Alfonso Soliano

Pemimpin Orkes Radio Malaya ini dilahirkan di Filipina, mahir bermain piano, pencinta irama jazz dan menjunjungi irama Melayu dalam perspektif yang berbeza. Ia terlihat pada awal pimpinannya sebelum kemerdekaan pada tahun 1956 yang ketika itu dikenali sebagai Orkes Tiga Serangkai yang turut dianggotai oleh Mahadzir Yassin, pemain double bass dan JJ.Vilinguez, pemain dram bagi menyediakan rancangan muzik untuk siaran radio.

Alfonso juga menggubah lagu Negaraku. Daripada sebuah lagu sentimental ke lagu yang menyuntik semangat patriotism, lagu Terang Bulan diberi nafas baharu menjadi lagu kebangsaan yang hari ini dikenali sebagai Negaraku. Semua sedia maklum, lagu Negaraku sebagai lambang visi kreatif Tunku Abdul Rahman, Perdana Menteri pertama Malaysia dan Bapa Kemerdekaan yang pertama kali melancarkan Negaraku mengiringi laungan merdeka selepas bendera Union Jack diturunkan.

Gus Steyn

Gus Steyn atau nama sebenarnya Gustaaf Nicolaas Steyn berasal dari Zaandam, Belanda. Banyak menyumbang kepada Malaysia menerusi penghasilan lagu-lagu patriotik, meskipun dia sebenarnya adalah seorang warga Singapura. Gus Steyn yang juga merupakan seorang konduktor orkestra dan pemain piano yang baik, dianggap antara komposer dan penggubah terbaik Malaysia selama lebih 30 tahun. Beliau juga bijak menggandingkan irama Malaysia bagi persembahan orkestra, antaranya lagu Kaparinyo Suite. Dibesarkan dan mendapat pendidikan awal di Belanda, Gus Steyn juga mendalami ilmu muziknya di tanah kelahirannya sebelum berhijrah ke Jakarta pada tahun 1940-an dan bekerja sebagai pemuzik.

Pada 1958, dia ke Singapura dan dilantik menjadi Pengarah Muzik di Radio TV Singapura. Semasa revolusi program pada tahun 1962, skim pemotongan gaji di Singapura menyebabkannya terpaksa berhenti kerja. Gus kemudiannya berhijrah pula ke Australia dan bermain muzik di kelab malam. Pada 1966, Tan Sri Dol Ramli dan Tan Sri Ahmad Merican telah ke Australia dan bertemu Gus Steyn, lalu menawarkannya bekerja bersama Orkestra RTM. Di Kuala Lumpur, Gus Steyn dilantik menjadi Timbalan Pemimpin di bawah seliaan Datuk Johari Salleh. Karya istimewanya, Overtue Samudra turut dimasukkan ke dalam kurikulum muzik formal Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia yang diperkenalkan pada tahun 1972.

Datuk Johari Salleh

ORKESTRA Radio Malaysia pada tahun 1970 yang dibarisi 49 anggota.

Datuk Johari Salleh bertanggungjawab mengambil alih kepimpinan Orkestra RTM pada tahun 1965, selepas lima tahun di bawah pimpinan Alfonso Soliano. Dalam usaha memantapkan Orkestra RTM, Johari yang dilahirkan di Geylang, Singapura, pada 9 Februari 1940, melanjutkan pelajaran di Berklee College of Music di Boston pada tahun 1967. Sebelum menyertai Orkestra RTM, Johari mengumpul banyak pengalaman dengan bekerja di kelab malam di Singapura. Johari yang sangat mengagumi idolanya, Alfonso Soliano dan Jimmy Boyle.

Meminati lagu klasik, jazz dan pop, Johari menjadikan Due Helinton sebagai sumber inspirasi kepada karya jazz. Sementara itu, Tom Jones dan Henry William khusus untuk lagu pop. Johari turut mengagumi seniman agung, Tan Sri P. Ramlee dan Saloma yang merupakan sahabat baiknya semasa di Singapura. Di bawah pimpinan Johari Orkestra RTM terus memacu peranannya sebagai landasan mengembangkan seni persembahan dan muzik tanah air.

Datuk Ahmad Dassilah

Datuk Ahmad Dassilah Mohd. Yussuf merupapan pemuzik hebat bermain saksofon, flut dan klarinet di pentas. Beliau menjadi penerbit di Unit Hiburan Radio pada tahun 1967 yang mana itu merupakan impiannya.Dipilih menjadi nakhoda baharu Orkestra pada tahun 1984 dan bertanggungjawab sebagai Pengarah Muzik RTM. Berkat ilmu yang dipelajarinya semasa melanjutkan pelajaran di universiti ternyata Dassilah membawa kejayaan yang besar kepada Orkestra RTM.

Datuk Mokhzani Ismail

Pengarah muzik kelahiran Perlis pada usia tujuh tahun, Datuk Mokhzani Ismail diberikan sebuah piano oleh ayahnya, Ismail Ariffin. Mokhzani mula berjinak-jinak membuat persembahan dengan bermain bersama-sama band di kampungnya di Perlis untuk majlis kenduri kahwin atau ketika majlis keramaian.

Tahun 1960-an, tidak terdapat sekolah seni muzik, sungguhpun begitu berkat semangat yang cekal, Mokhzani belajar sendiri sambil dibantu oleh ayahnya.Pada usia 18 tahun, Mokhzani melanjutkan pelajaran ke Maktab Ilmu Khas. Istimewanya Mokhzani, beliau pelajar yang mahir mampu bermain apa sahaja lagu hanya menerusi pendengaran telinganya. Tahun 1982, beliau menjadi guru di Perlis.

Mokhzani meletak jawatan pada tahun 1986 mendapat biasiswa yang membawa Mokhzani terbang ke Boston melanjutkan pengajian di Berklee College of Music dalam bidang penggubahan orkestra. Selepas tiga tahun menuntut ilmu di luar negara dan lulus dengan Magna Cum Laude, Mokhzani kembali ke Malaysia pada tahun 1990.Seorang kenalan lama Mokhzani telah memperkenalkan Mokhzani kepada Pengarah Orkestra Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Datuk Ahmad Dassilah. Detik itulah menjadi permulaan kepada penglibatan beliau dengan Orkestra RTM.

Kumpulan Hijjaz merupakan kumpulan penyanyi Malaysia yang menyampaikan lagu berirama nasyid kontemporeri. Dianggotai oleh 4 orang ahli. Salah seorang daripadanya meninggal dunia, meninggalkan hanya 3 orang ahli. Namun begitu, kini ahlinya kembali berjumlah 4 orang.

Hijjaz ditubuhkan pada ditubuhkan pada 1 Ramadhan 1417 bersamaan 10 Jan. 1997. Sebelum penubuhan Hijjaz, mereka pernah menganggotai kumpulan Nada Murni lebih 10 tahun.

A deejay (alternatively spelled DJ) is a reggae or dancehall musician who sings and toasts to an instrumental riddim (rhythm).

Deejays are not to be confused with disc jockeys from other music genres like Hip-Hop, where they select and play music. Dancehall/reggae DJs who select riddims to play are calledselectors. Deejays who are more likely to sing are sometimes called singjays.

The term deejay came about as a result of the act of some selectors (as they were called) of the 60s and 70s such as U-Roy or King Stitt toasting to the version side of popular records of the time. The version came about when the record company produced the 45 record with the song, the flip side of which had the instrumental version of the song. This gave the deejays the chance to make up on-the-fly lyrics to the instrumental music. This occurrence gave rise to deejay toasting and the term has been used in that context ever since.

Bunkface is a four-piece Malaysian rock band from Klang, Selangor, formed in 2005. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Sam, bass guitarist and backup vocalist Youk, lead guitarist Paan, and drummer Ejam Coda. Popular songs by Bunkface include Bunk Anthem, Situasi, Silly Lily, High School Rocker, Tired Misson, Revolusi, Fine, Land Of Hope, Last Minute, Hyper Killer, Our Way, Prom Queen, Through My Window and most recently, Ekstravaganza.

History The band started off as a group of four secondary school friends from SMK Sri Andalas having casual jam sessions at Klang, Selangor,. The name “Bunkface” had originated from an idea by a former drummer, Biak, who borrowed the word from one of Sum 41’s songs “Crazy Amanda Bunkface”. They cited Sum 41, Green Day, Blink 182 as their main influences.

In March 2006, Bunkface won the first place for the Battle of the Bands competition organized by the Rhythm Of The Third World (ROTTW), a Malaysian music magazine. Bunkface got their first magazine feature through this, and later on was approached by Demoplanet.tv, a Malaysian online music community, who offered them to sponsor a video clip for them. It was only in late 2006 when they participated in the hit TV show Blastoff that they finally caught the attention of the public.

In December 2007, Bunkface released their first EP titled “Lesson of the Season”, featuring 6 English tracks, mixing a pop-punk/alternative rock sound. The hit song “Silly Lily” was number 1 on Hitz.fm’s Malaysian Top Ten for 8 weeks and number 1 on Fly.fm’s Campur Chart for 10 weeks. Bunkface’s first Malay single Situasi stormed to number 1 on XFresh FM and steadily stayed at number 3 on Era FM for 3 weeks.

Latar Belakang

Kumpulan 6ixth Sense terdiri daripada lima orang anak muda iaitu Mohd Faiz Azizi (Gjie) selaku pemain gitar utama, Safuan Hasnan (Wan) selaku pemain drum, Muhd Azmi (Air Bone) selaku pemain gitar kedua (yang kemudiannya digantikan dengan Athan), Mohd Fairuz (Ayoy) selaku pemain bass dan Adi Priyo Sambodo (Adi) selaku vokalis. 6ixth Sense merupakan kumpulan muzik pertama dengan gabungan pemuzik Malaysia dan Indonesia.

Kumpulan ini menamakan diri mereka “Sixth Sense” kerana berkebolehan menggunakan panca deria untuk menjiwai serta mencipta muzik. 6ixth Sense yakin dapat bersaing dengan mana-mana kumpulan muzik ketika ini. Melihat pada pencapaian mereka, jelas terbukti mereka boleh memberikan impak kepada perkembangan muzik tanahair.

Mereka memulakan kerjaya seni sebagai sebuah kugiran yang bermain di majlis perkahwinan. Setelah mendapat tempat di hati peminat, 6ixth Sense telah dilamar menjadi artis rakaman pada tahun 2005 walaupun industri muzik tempatan ketika itu diuliti dengan pelbagai masalah seperti cetak rompak dan kemasukkan artis-artis luar negara yang banyak.

Di awal penubuhan, salah seorang pemuzik dari Indonesia telah mencadangkan nama pemuda Indonesia, Adi Priyo Sambodo yang kepada pengurus 6ixth Sense, Mujahid Abdul Wahab. Setelah berjaya menunjukkan kebolehan vokalnya, Adi diterbangkan dari Indonesia ke Malaysia untuk memulakan kerjayanya sebagai penyanyi utama 6ixth Sense.

Lebih 5,000 buah album telah terjual setelah album ini dilancarkan pada 2 Jun 2006. Kumpulan yang mempertaruhkan lagu yang pernah dipopularkan oleh J. Mizan pada era 70an, ‘Hari Ini Dan Semalam’ sebagai single pertama mendapat sambutan yang menggalakkan daripada stesen-stesen radio tempatan. Malah, lagu tersebut pernah mendapat tempat kedua di Carta Era selama beberapa minggu. Terdapat 11 buah lagu di dalam album ini seperti termasuk ‘Maafkanku’, ‘Berjanjilah’, ‘Seandainya’, ‘Mama Papa’, ‘Pesona’ dan ‘Pawana’.

Syarikat rakaman mereka, Universal Music percaya bahawa kumpulan tersebut dapat diterima oleh peminat muzik Indonesia berdasarkan adanya Adi sebagai vokalis utama serta konsep kumpulan tersebut iaitu progresif pop-rock.

Adi Priyo Sambodo merupakan penyanyi utama 6ixth Sense. Beliau berasal dari Jember, Indonesia. Beliau lahir pada 1 Oktober 1983. Antara lagu ciptaanya adalah seperti Khatinmah Cinta dan Hikayat Cinta.

Mohd Faiz Azizi Arlis merupakan gitaris utama 6ixth Sense. Beliau berasal dari Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Beliau lahir pada 23 November 1985. Antara lagu yang diciptanya adalah seperti Tanpa, Maafkanku dan Kelam

Beliau menggantikan Airbone sejak Airbone menyatakan hasratnya untuk menarik diri selepas penghasilan album kedua mereka. Dikhabarkan Atan akan bersama 6ixth Sense untuk album ketiga dan seterusnya nanti. Atan yang sebelum ini memang telah lama mengenali anggota 6ixth Sense dan sentiasa mengikuti persembahan kumpulan itu mengakui tidak mempunyai masalah untuk menyerasikan diri dalam kumpulan tersebut malah mereka telah berkawan rapat.

Mohd Fairos Ramli merupakan pemain bass 6ixth Sense. Beliau berasal dari Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Beliau lahir pada 31 Julai 1985.

Mohd Azmi Yahaya merupakan bekas pemain gitar 6ixth Sense. Beliau berasal Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Beliau lahir pada 15 Disember 1985. Beliau telah menyatakan hasrat untuk menarik diri sebaik mendirikan rumah tangga pada tahun 2007. Tempat yang dikosongkan oleh Airbone kini diganti oleh ahli baru iaitu Shahrul Effendy atau lebih mesra dikenali sebagai Atan.

Album kedua dari 6ixth Sense. Album ini lebih unik berbanding album pertama kerana kesemua dalam lagu dalam album ini dicipta sendiri oleh anggota kumpulan 6ixth Sense. Album ini mempertaruhkan 2 single. Single pertama mereka iaitu Tak Bisa Memilihmu mendapat sambutan hangat sama seperti lagu Hari Ini Dan Semalam. Tak Bisa Memilihmu juga dijadikan novel berdasarkan lagu tersebut. Single kedua untuk album ini iaitu Tanpa turut mendapat sambutan yang hebat sehingga berjaya mendapat anugerah ‘Lagu Paling Popular Hits 1 (2008)’. Lagu Tanpa juga berjaya tercalon ke dalam muzik-muzik separuh akhir namun tidak berjaya dicalonkan di peringkat akhir. Kedua-dua single di dalam album ini juga mendapat sambutan yang luar biasa melalui muat turun digital. Cinta Yang Sempurna merupakan single khas 6ixth Sense bersempena dengan bulan Ramadhan. Melalui single ini, 6ixth Sense bekolaborasi dengan Noe dari kumpulan Letto. Lagu berkonsepkan ketuhanan ini dicipta sepenuhnya oleh Noe dan susunan muzik oleh 6ixth Sense. Noe juga berduet dengan Adi di dalam Single ini. Cinta Yang Sempurna mendapat sambutan yang hangat dan sering diputar di corong-corong radio di Malaysia. Cinta Yang Sempurna juga sering mendapat tempat teratas di dalam beberapa carta di beberapa stesen radio Malaysia.

The Legend merupakan album 6ixth Sense yang dijadual untuk diedarkan pada tahun 2009. Namun album ini tidak dikeluarkan atas sebab-sebab yang tidak dikenal pasti. Album ini menampilkan rakaman semula lagu-lagu melayu era 80an-90an serta beberapa lagu baru.
